Myrna Robinson-Walters joined the firm of M. Hamel-Smith & Co. in 1992, and has distinguished herself in the area of taxation, particularly corporate tax planning and tax litigation.

As the In-house Tax Expert for the past 15 years, Myrna has made an extraordinary contribution to the firm.  Hamel-Smith is delighted that having attained retirement, and with her high energy and desire to pass on her unique expertise, Myrna has agreed to extend her involvement with the firm.  Thus, in November 2007, she was appointed Partner Emeritus.

Myrna is involved in preparation and review of all types of commercial agreements, company reorganizations and business sales and acquisitions, incorporation of trading companies, incorporation and securing tax exemptions for non-profit organizations and companies.

She advises corporate clients on a broad range of issues relating generally to all aspects of employment and specifically employee benefits, share option schemes, pension fund plans. In addition, she liaises with litigation attorneys who handle matters in the Trinidad & Tobago Industrial Court.

She has had a varied career which commenced at the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Guyana in 1967. By 1982, she held the post of Principal Legal Adviser. She then relocated to Trinidad and spent 10 years at the Board of Inland Revenue where she distinguished herself in tax litigation and as Head of the Legal Section. Whilst at the Revenue, she appeared in the Tax Appeal Board (a superior court of record with a specialized jurisdiction), the Court of Appeal, and as Junior Counsel on several occasions in the Privy Council, England - the final court of appeal for Trinidad & Tobago.
