Oct 13, 2009 - Centenary Celebrations

We at Hamel-Smith are certainly proud to be doing business with you our valued clients for the last 100 years. This very special occasion caused us to reflect on our past, the traditional values that have served us well and the many treasured business relationships we have built up over the years.

While it stands as a hallmark achievement, serving for 100 years brings both rewards and responsibilities. Recently the firm took the opportunity to host some of its clients at a reception to celebrate our centenary. Here are some excerpts from the feature address delivered by Nicole Ferreira-Aaron, Partner in our Banking & Finance group.

“Anniversaries present us with an opportunity to celebrate the past. But they are also occasions to remember, and reflect upon, the principles and values that have sustained us through the last 100 years. We at Hamel-Smith have always taken seriously our responsibility to the wider community.  Over the years we have maintained strong ties with the Hugh Wooding Law School, the source of some of our richest talent.  We are particularly proud that former Hamel-Smith Partners have made (and continue to make) very significant contributions as members of the Judiciary, and we are honoured to have with us this evening former Justice of Appeal Roger Hamel-Smith, Justice Joseph Tam and Justice Peter Rajkumar. We thank them for gracing our celebration with their presence.

By far the most significant reason that we have remained in business for 100 years is the relationship which we share with our clients. We cherish the opportunity you have given us to understand your business, your challenges and your risks.

As a firm, as a business community and as a nation, we can draw strength from the history of those who have brought us to this day.  With a commitment to deep and enduring relationships, an openness to change and innovation, and a determination to live in accordance with our fundamental principles and values, we can face the future with confidence. Yes, we can!

We are proud of today’s celebrations. We are excited about tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities. And we are looking forward to traveling with you on the journey ahead.

Here’s to 100 years of doing business at Hamel-Smith! And here’s to the next 100 years together!”
